The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy appeared on the first Rolling Stones EP- and was the final song on that EP. It is a cover of a song written by the great songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Poison Ivy had been a #1 R&B and #7 pop song in 1958. The song has been covered by a countless number of artists including The Hollies, Manfred Mann, The Dave Clark Five, The Paramounts, Linda McCartney etc. The highlights of The Rolling Stones version- Brian and Keith’s guitars and Charlie Watts drumming. All four songs on The Rolling Stones EP- Bye Bye Johnny, Money, You Better Move On and Poison Ivy were well done covers. Other than the instrumental Stoned they had yet to release an original. That would soon change.
