The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is Come On. Come On was the a-side of the first single by The Rolling Stones and can be found on the compilation More Hot Rocks [Big Hits and Fazed Cookies.} The b-side is I Want To Be Loved.

  • The origins of The Rolling Stones today are often forgotten and there are probably some younger fans out there who do not know- that the original founder and leader of The Rolling Stones- were not Mick Jagger and Keith Richards but Brian Jones.
  • Come On is a cover of a Chuck Berry song from 1961. The single didn’t make the charts. Chuck Berry’s original can be found on his great compilation “The Great Twenty-Eight.” The Rolling Stones single was released on June 7, 1963.
  • They hadn’t played Come On in concert since 1965 until June 6, 2013 in Toronto when Mick Jagger sang a few bars of it and mentioned that it had been released fifty years ago today.
  • Come On peaked as a single- The Rolling Stones first hit in the UK at #21 on July 31, 1963.
  • The Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger changed the lyrics of Chuck Berry’s Come On- from ‘some stupid jerk” to ‘some stupid guy.’
  • The original Rolling Stones didn’t care for this song at all- they considered it too pop. Their manager Andrew Oldham thought it had the potential to be a hit and attract and audience. He was correct since it was a hit in the UK. The only member of the group as it was at that time who didn’t play on the record was Ian Stewart because he didn’t like the song. For the first ever Stones release it’s a pretty good recording but certainly doesn’t match the originator Chuck Berry’s version.

Everything is wrong since me and my baby parted
All day long I’m walkin’ ’cause I couldn’t get my car started
Laid off from my job and I can’t afford to check it
I wish somebody’d come along and run into it and wreck it
Come on, since me and my baby parted
Come on, I can’t get started
Come on, I can’t afford to check it
I wish somebody’d come along and run into it and wreck it
Everything is wrong since I’ve been without you
Every night I lay awake thinkin’ about you
Every time the phone rings it sounds like thunder
Some stupid guy tryin’ to reach another number
Come on, since I’ve been without you
Come on, always thinkin’ about you
Come on, phone sounds like thunder
Some stupid guy tryin’ to reach another number
Everything is wrong since I last saw you, baby
I really want to see you and I don’t mean maybe
I’m doin’ ev’rything tryin’ to make you see
That I belong to you, hon, and you belong to me
Come on, I want to see you, baby
Come on, I don’t mean maybe
Come on, I’m tryin’ to make you see
That I belong to you and you belong to me
Come on, I gotta see you, baby
Come on, I don’t mean maybe
Come on, I’ve gotta make you see
That I belong to you and you belong to me
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
