The Beatles Song of the Day is – You Never Give Me Your Money- it appears on side 2 of Abbey Road and was written by Paul McCartney. This was the first song Paul wrote after The Beatles set aside the Let It Be project. Th song was inspired by the problems The Beatles were having at the time- money problems and the troubled relationships at the time within the group The song is three separate fragments The first fragments deals with the money problems- instead of real money they are just getting statements ‘funny papers” The second fragment may be a look back to earlier times ‘out of college, money spent- simpler times and the final segment deals with Paul’s new life with Linda. The world may not have know at this time that The Beatles were at their end but they knew it.. Paul has received a lot of criticism over the years for his domineering ways towards the end of The Beatles-but in the last few years he was the one who kept them going. The Beatles as a group at this point were being driven by him. Where John was the leader in the early to middle years- he had lost interest. This is a sad song- the end was coming. They all knew it -somehow after the fiasco of the Let It Be sessions they did pull it all together and went out with one of their greatest albums. Paul McCartney: multitracked-vocal, backing vocals, pianos, bass, guitars, wind-chimes, tape-loops.: John Lennon: backing vocals, guitars: George Harrison: backing vocals, guitars: Ringo Starr: drums, tambourine: Produced by George Martin.

You only give me your funny paper
And in the middle of negotiations
You break down
I only give you my situation
And in the middle of investigation
I break down
See no future, pay no rent
All the money’s gone,
Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning, turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go
But oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
Oh, that magic feeling
Nowhere to go, nowhere to go
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we’ll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream came true today
Came true today
Came true today (yes, it did)
All good children go to Heaven
