It was fifty years ago today- September 13, 1968- The Beatles appeared on the cover of Life magazine. The feature story was on the newly released book -the authorized biography of The Beatles- by Hunter Davies- The Beatles. The book was a good one- although there were subjects that were skirted- The Beatles drug use and manager Brian Epstein’s homosexuality being two major ones. There are lists that have it among the top 10 Beatles books. The book over the years has been updated a few times.

Note- THE best book on The Beatles is still being written. Mark Lewisohn in 2013 released the first volume of his” The Beatles All These Years-Tune In” covers the early years of their lives. Two more volumes will follow. Simply put the first book is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
