The Beatles Song of the Day is Revolution I. Revolution I is the first song on side 4 of The White Album and it was written by John Lennon. There would be three Revolution songs during this period- this version which appeared on The White Album is a slower bluesier version. John wanted it to be the next Beatles single but Paul didn’t want to stir up controversy and Paul and George both argued that the song was too slow to be a single. John didn’t give up- and then turned it into a faster, more aggressive rock song-which would end up as the b-side to the Hey Jude single. The rock version of the song did reach #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. John wrote the song in India when The Beatles were with the Maharishi. Lennon was inspired by the protests around the world in 1968- he was in sympathy with the protesters but wasn’t all too sure that their tactics for bringing change were the correct ones. On this version John sings “you can count me out- in”- whereas on the rocking b-side it is ‘you can count me out.” which the left felt betrayed by. John Lennon:  vocal, acoustic guitar, lead guitar: Paul McCartney: backing vocals, piano, organ, bass: George Harrison: backing vocals , lead guitar: Ringo Starr: drums:  Derek Watkins, Freddy Clayton: trumpets: Don Lang: Rex Morris, J. Power, Bill Povey: trombones: Produced by George Martin.

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it’s evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don’t you know that you can count me out
Don’t you know it’s gonna be
All right, all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We’d all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We’re doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don’t you know it’s gonna be
All right, all right, all right
You say you’ll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it’s the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don’t you know it’s gonna be
All right, all right, all right
All right, all right, all right
All right, all right, all right
All right, all right
