MY MUSIC LISTENING JOURNAL: DAY 77: SATURDAY MAY 5, 2018

ALBUMS:

A square montage of square photographs arranged in a 4 by 4 grid. The photographs are mostly blue and red in tint, but some are monochrome. They are candid in nature and mostly show four men in various locations, including in an empty street, a crowded festival, under a bridge, in a car, and standing on sand. One photograph is a close-up of a man's hand wearing two rings bearing the characters "U" and "2".

  • U2: ACHTUNG BABY: 1991: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Although The Joshua Tree is my favorite U2 album I think a good case could be made for Achtung Baby being U2’s best album. The Joshua Tree gave them the unofficial title of Greatest Rock Band In The World- at the moment-but the next move was seen as a misstep- Rattle and Hum kind of backfired especially the movie- the album broke no new ground. U2 was and is an ambitious band- so their follow up- they changed their sound adding influences from industrial rock and dance music. They didn’t invent some new sound but it was a new sound for U2- and it worked spectacularly. In the mid 90’s they would try a new sound and to me POP is their worst album.
  • Listened to repeat of a classic American Top 40 on 70’s on 7- 40 years ago this week’s countdown- May 6, 1978. Very good show- really only a couple bad songs in the entire bunch.
