The Beatles Song Of The Day is “Matchbox.” “Matchbox” appears on The Beatles EP “Long Tall Sally.” “Matchbox” is a cover of a Carl Perkins song. The song was written and recorded by Carl Perkins. Perkins original was released in 1957 and wasn’t a hit.  John Lennon: rhythm guitar/ Paul McCartney: bass guitar/ George Harrison: lead guitar/ Ringo Starr: double-tracked vocal and drums/ George Martin: piano. The song was recorded on June 1st, 1964 at Abbey Road. Producer: George Martin. This was a song that The Beatles had covered in concerts over their early years. Pete Best had sang it when he was the drummer. John sang it in concert for a while. When it came to recording it they handed it over to Ringo. The Beatles loved Carl Perkins.
