KENDRICK LAMAR: DAMN: 2017: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:CD:Like Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly” this is only my second ever listen to this album- and I do know one thing- I like To Pimp A Butterfly- a lot more. But still I want to listen a lot more to both albums since they are so highly acclaimed before I made a final verdict.

GORDON LIGHTFOOT: COMPLETE GREATEST HITS: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: 2002: CD: Unless you are a complete Lightfoothead you probably won’t need to do any exploring past this 20 song Cd which has the big hits and near hits of the Canadian- who is still touring last I saw. This is a fine collection I can’t think of anything essential that is missing. Favorite Lightfoot songs- The Wreck of The Edmund FItzgerald, Early Morning Rain, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, If You Could Read My Mind, Summer Side Of Life, Sundown, Carefree Highway, Rainy Day People.

DIVIDED AND UNITED: THE SONGS OF THE CIVIL WAR: 2013: 3 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: CD: In a couple weeks we are going to Gettysburg for a few days and I checked this out of the library thinking it would be a collection to listen to that would get me into the mood for the trip- but while the two disc 36 song collection has some good music it fails to produce what I was looking for. The Ken Burns Civil War soundtrack- it always puts me back into the war- this doesn’t. Maybe I need to give it a couple more listens and it will sink in. It’s not the performers- which are a virtual who’s who of Americana music.
DAMN. and To Pimp A Butterfly are both great albums. I think DAMN. is just a bit more simplistic, but that’s intentional.
