- RANDY NEWMAN: SAIL AWAY: 1972: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: Although my favorite Randy Newman album is Good Old Boys-his 4th album- his best is probably Sail Away which was his 3rd album. Favorite songs on this album-Sail Away, Lonely At The Top [which he wrote with Frank Sinatra in mind} Old Man, Political Science, Burn On, Dayton, Ohio 1903. Really nothing on this album that isn’t stellar- Beach Boy Brian Wilson once said this album kept him from sliding further into depression and mental illness-particularly the song “Sail Away” which is one of Newman’s best ever songs.
- TOM T. HALL: HOMEGROWN: 1997: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: CD: This looks to be Tom T. Hall’s final album-released 21 years ago- and maybe he just wanted to end his recording career with a winner-because this is a great album. One of my favorite albums to listen to over the past two decades. Tom T. has always been known as the great storyteller and this album is full of great stories: My favorite tracks- Bill Monroe For Breakfast, Waiting For The Other Shoe To Fall, Local Flowers, Watertown Tennessee, The Way I’ve Always Been and Back When The Homeplace Was New.
- THE BEATLES: ABBEY ROAD: 1969: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: Been playing this one a lot the past month.
- VAN MORRISON: ASTRAL WEEKS: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: I never get tired of this album- play it again!
