  • SUN RECORD COMPANY 50 GOLDEN YEARS 1952-2002: CLASSIC AND RARE RECORDINGS FROM THE LEGENDARY SUN LABEL: DISC 1: SUN RISE- IN THE BEGINNING: 2002: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • SUN RECORD COMPANY 50 GOLDEN YEARS 1952-2002: CLASSIC AND RARE RECORDINGS FROM THE LEGENDARY SUN LABEL: DISC 2:  SUN STARS: THE PRINCIPALS: 2002:
  • SUN RECORD COMPANY 50 GOLDEN YEARS 1952-2002: CLASSIC AND RARE RECORDINGS FROM THE LEGENDARY SUN LABEL: DISC 3:  SUN CREAM:  THE KEY COMPONENTS: 2002: This is a great box set- 8 discs and 200 different songs. This for as great as it is- and it is a great box set- [it is an import} has flaws. It is not the only box set on Sun Records you will ever need. There is only two Elvis songs- a bonus 7″ vinyl single of his first recordings, this box concentrates on the artists who never made it big- good stuff but not enough Jerry Lee, Perkins, Charlie Rich, Johnny Cash… I would recommend it only [considering how much is costs- I can’t recall what I paid for it but at 8 discs I am sure it wasn’t cheap} for those who are huge Sun Records fanatics. I have the cd’s Sun has on the individual artists I’ve listed above so this is a good supplement to the Sun story- but you will need to get the individual discs- those are more essential than this box. There is another box that I have which is a 3 disc box which concentrates on the big artists- The Sun Records Collection- a lot cheaper and has the songs you’d know. Get all this music and sit down and read the great great biography on the man- Sam Phillips- The Man Who Invented Rock N Roll- by Peter Guralnick. I read it nearly two years ago when it came out and just might have to read it again soon.
