TODAY listened to 5 different albums. 125 day total- 782 different albums. On pace for-

  • THE CARPENTERS: GOLD: 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION: 2004: DISC 1: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: 40 songs on the 2 disc set of the best of The Carpenters. Paul McCartney has called Karen Carpenter ‘the best female vocalist ever- and  “the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive.” During their prime years in the 1970’s they were dismissed by many as boring and vanilla but their reputation has grown over the years. A tribute album in 1994- by such artists as Sonic Youth, Cracker, Sheryl Crow, and The Cranberries helped throw a new light on them.
  • THE CARPENTERS: GOLD: 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION: 2004: DISC 2:
  • ELVIS COSTELLO: TRUST: 1981: DISC 2: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:- This is another extra disc from the Elvis Costello catalog- alternative versions and unreleased songs. Trust is an underrated EC album.
  • BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: TUNNEL OF LOVE: 1987: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The long awaited follow up to “Born In The USA” Brilliant Disguise, Tunnel of Love and One Step Back were hits. The album wasn’t “Born In The USA II” which is a compliment. Bruce would never be as commercially successful again. A lot of the songs seemed to be about his failing marriage of that time.
  • MADNESS: ULTIMATE MADNESS: 2010: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Madness much more successful in the UK than in the US- known to most of the US audience for their hit “Our House”- One of the most prominent Ska revival bands of their time. Other favorites include House of Fun,  It Must Be Love, One Step Beyond and Michael Caine.
