Theodore Roosevelt National Park in western North Dakota is jewel. I had been to 47 of the 48 in the continental United States- North Dakota was the one I was missing. To go to Theodore Roosevelt National Park- you have to want to go there. It is not one of those places ‘on the way’ to anywhere else but it was well worth the trip. I wouldn’t mind going back. It isn’t an over crowded place like say Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon which is a plus. A lot of wildlife- we were driving along the road and made a turn and saw hundreds of bison making their way across the road in front of us. It was great just sitting there for 20-30 minutes and watching it. Some cars were impatient and made their way through the crowd- I didn’t understand why this isn’t something you see everyday- enjoy it.

What a thrill! We recently went through northern North Dakota, but by train (no bison). Coming back we drove – through South Dakota with lots of pronghorn antelope. Travel is good.
Yes travel is great! To live in those parts you have to be good with being isolated.. the mall isn’t around the corner!
Watch out for the fracking enthusiasts if you do visit there.
