On this day in 1999- 18 years ago today- my favorite ever Baseball All-Star Game moment. The game was at Fenway Park and before the game the greatest hitter who ever lived- Ted Williams was honored.  Ted was not in the best of health and he would die in three years but on this night it was all about Teddy Ballgame. It was great to see the players reactions when he came out onto the field to throw out the first pitch. A lot of the old timers over the years from the beginnings of baseball loved to put down the current generation of ballplayers but Ted was never like that. In interviews he seemed to go out of his way to compliment the players of the day.

below is video of that evening in Boston when they honored Ted.

  1. Williams mellowed with age to appreciate what the game had given to him for sure. I wonder how many home runs he would hit in today’s All Star Home Run Derby when he was in his prime?
