Sixty- three years ago today Sam Phillips [aka The Man Who Invented Rock ‘n Roll} signed a 19 year old Elvis Presley to a recording contract for Phillips record company- Sun Records. Elvis then gave his notice at The Crown Electric Company. [In the photo above Mr. Sam is next to Elvis in the middle.}

Elvis would record 24 songs from 1953-55 at Sun Records. To me this is Elvis at his best. After his contract went to RCA he became a superstar and sold millions and millions but he never recaptured the sound he had at Sun Studio. They are all on a double cd issued nearly 20 years ago called “Sunrise”

Elvis Presley released 5ive singles while on Sun- they are listed below. His music covered a wide variety of music styles- country, bluegrass, gospel, blues, rhythm and blues. The boy could sing it all. The downfall in some ways of Elvis was when he met up with the snake oil salesman named Col. Tom Parker. Elvis may have got all the fame and money et that a person could ever want but he lost his soul by following the orders of that man.
