beatles-something-new-cover-art

Goal is to listen to 1500 different albums in a 12 month period.

TODAY listened to 14 different albums. Total for 97 days- 627. On pace for 2359.

  • INXS: SHINE LIKE IT DOES:THE ANTHOLOGY: 1979-97: DISC 1: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: I like my anthologies to go in chronological order and this one does [as did The Cars that I listened to yesterday} The first disc is superior to the second – seems like hit after hit  not that the second disc isn’t worth listening to- it is. A good sampler. The individual albums are worth hearing-especially the 1980’s albums.
  • INXS: SHINE LIKE IT DOES: THE ANTHOLOGY: 1979-97: DISC 2: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: MEET THE BEATLES: {US Release} MONO VERSION:  1964: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: On the 60th anniversary of the day John met Paul- had to listen to some Beatles. Up until Sgt. Pepper- Capital Records in the US released different versions of Beatles albums than the official releases in the US. The US releases is what I grew up listening too. In 1988 the UK versions were released in the US- and that has been what I’ve listened to since. Not that the US versions aren’t interesting. To commemorate the day John met Paul I am going to listen to US versions of The Beatles albums from the beginning through Revolver.
  • THE BEATLES: THE BEATLES SECOND ALBUM: {US version} MONO VERSION: 1964: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: SOMETHING NEW: [US Version} MONO VERSION} 1964: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: THE BEATLES ’65: [US Version} MONO VERSION} 1964: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: THE EARLY BEATLES: US Version} {MONO VERSION} 1965: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: VI:  1965: {US VERSION} {MONO VERSION} 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: HELP! : US Version} {MONO Version 1965: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES” RUBBER SOUL: 1965: [US Version} {MONO VERSION} 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: YESTERDAY AND TODAY: 1966: {US Version} {MONO VERSION}: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • THE BEATLES: REVOLVER: 1966: [US Version} {MONO VERSION} 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:
  • SOLAS: SOLAS: 1996: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Debut album of an outstanding Irish traditional music group. Mixture of instruments and vocals. A winning formula. They are still active today.
  • THE WATERBOYS: MODERN BLUES: 2015: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The Waterboys have been around 35 years- this album sounds as good as any of them [and the album before this one was “An Appointment With Mr. Yeats” is my favorite album of theirs- along with Fisherman’s Blues. Best songs here- “Beautiful Now” “I Can See Elvis”, “Destinies Entwined” and “The Girl Who Slept For Scotland.”

  1. I reviewed The Waterboys album back in the day and I agree with your assessment.
“The Nashville influence may not be glaringly obvious, but recording an album in the city has given Mike Scott a revitalizing lift that gives the songs a rare passion and articulacy of sound, style and delivery. Simple human emotions from an old man who still has the romantic notions of an eager teen. 8/10”
