Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson II- it was billed as “The Sound And The Fury” before hand but today it is remembered as “The Bite Fight”

The fight took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the first fight between the two Holyfield had knocked out Tyson in the 6th round.

In this fight Holyfield had won the first two rounds. Forty seconds into the third round- Tyson leaned into Holyfield and took a bite on his ear and spitting the piece of Holyfield’s ear onto the ring floor.  Holyfield shrieked in pain and started jumping around the ring. After a delay referee Miles Lane let the fight continue and Tyson bit Holyfield on the left ear. When the round ended- the second bite was shown to Lane and the fight was stopped- Tyson disqualified. In the bizarre life and boxing career of Mike Tyson this has to rank near the top. What was going on in his mind? Tyson would later claim it was retribution for a headbutt that Holyfield had made earlier in the fight.
