On this date in 1983 The Talking Heads released what was to be their most successful charting album that contained what would become their highest charting single. “Speaking In Tongues” is the 5th of The Talking Heads eventual eight albums. It reached #15 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. “Burning Down The House” would go to #9 on the Hot 100 Singles chart. In my mind, The Talking Heads had many hits but in reality they would have only three singles that would hit the Top 40 in their career.
In my opinion anyway this is around the peak of their run. “Remain In Light” and “Fear Of Music” I like better but this is also a 5 star album- after this they start a slow retreat. Every Talking Heads album is worth owning- but they aren’t as rock solid great as “Fear of Music” 1979- “Remain In Light” 1980 and “Speaking In Tongues” 1983 -three album run.
