exile_album

Goal is to listen to 1500 different albums in a period of 12 months.

TODAY- Listened to 8 different albums. 49 day total-303. on pace for 2257.

  • SOUNDGARDEN: A-SIDES: 1997: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: An excellent best of- has what you’d want to hear. Chris Cornell did have a powerful voice. “Black Hole Sun” one of my favorite songs from the early 90’s.
  • THE ROLLING STONES: EXILE ON MAIN STREET: 1972: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. One of the greatest double albums of all times and my favorite Stones album- and it contains my favorite Stones song- “Tumbling Dice.”  This would also end their fantastic 4 album run- Beggar’s Banquet, Let It Bleed”, “Sticky Fingers”, “Exile.”
  • STEVE EARLE: TOWNES: 2009: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. Earle pays tribute to his hero by recording an album of his songs.
  • RICHARD AND LINDA THOMPSON: I WANT TO SEE THE BRIGHT LIGHTS TONIGHT: 1974: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. A neglected masterpiece when it came out. The English mag- Mojo has it as one of the 100 greatest albums ever.
  • THE GO BETWEENS: BELLEVISTA TERRACE- THE BEST OF THE GO-BETWEENS: 1999: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. In a just world they would have been big- but as it turns out they weren’t even stars in their home country-Australia. Grant McLennan and Robert Forster a great songwriting team.
  • THE RAMONES: THE RAMONES: 1976: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS.  A pioneering punk album. Should have sold millions. Every song is fantastic to my ears. The longest song is 2:24 and the entire 14 song album clocks in at 29:04. If you are looking for self-indulgent guitar solos look elsewhere.
  • THE RAMONES: LEAVE HOME: 1977: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. In a Ramones mood today- another album done at breakneck speed-clocking in at under a half and hour. Sounds more pop oriented than the debut the year before.
  • THE RAMONES: ROCKET TO RUSSIA: 1977: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS.

    • Thanks! I wish I could remember what blog I saw who had this idea months ago. I liked it because it is making me listen to a lot of different cd’s in my collection that I may haven’t listened to in some time.
