tom-waits-the-heart-of-saturday-night-big

Goal is to listen to 1500 different albums in a 12 month period.

TODAY Listened to 5 different albums. 48 day total- 295- on pace for 2243

  • TOM WAITS: THE HEART OF SATURDAY NIGHT: 1974: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. Waits second album, ballads backed up by a jazz band. His voice here sounds nothing like the Tom Waits voice of the present.
  • BOB DYLAN: JOHN WESLEY HARDING: 1967: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. Bob’s first album after his motorcycle accident. Everyone else was going psychedelic Dylan does a traditional roots album. Bob has never been one to follow trends. Most famous song here “All Along The Watchtower”- Jimi Hendrix version of course is where most know it from.
  • ENYA: A DAY WITHOUT RAIN: 2000: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. The best selling new age album of all time. Reached #2 on the charts after really taking off when “Only Time” was used in television coverage after the 9/11 attacks.
  • JOHN MELLENCAMP: PLAIN SPOKEN: 2014: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS. Mellencamp has give up trying to be a hitmaker and is doing what he wants to do. “Troubled Man” is my favorite song in this album. What a varied career he’s had starting out as Johnny Cougar.
  • MALCOLM HOLCOMBE: A HUNDERED LIES: 1999: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: I had kind of forgotten about Holcombe-until I saw he was going to play locally. Went and saw him- he is fantastic in concert. This is his debut album. Folk singer in the style of say a Townes Van Zandt. I need to get me some more Malcolm Holcombe albums.
