Ray Davies of The Kinks was knighted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace on Thursday. Sir Ray Davies now. The Kinks officially broke up two decades ago but during the 60’s and 70’s especially The Kinks were one of the greatest -and most underrated rock groups. Ray Davies wrote such masterpieces as “Waterloo Sunset”[which is one of my ten favorite songs by anyone, ever}, “You Really Got Me”, “Lola”, “Sunny Afternoon”, “Tired of Waiting For You’, “Dedicated Follower of Fashion” to name just a handful of classics. Ray Davies wrote and sang most of the classic Kinks hits. Of the great British bands from their time I’d rank only The Beatles and The Rolling Stones above them. Davies joins Paul McCartney, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Van Morrison, Beatles producer George Martin and Ravi Shankar as musicians who have been knighted.
