Fifty-five years ago today, March 2, 1962 Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors scored 100 points in a game against the New York Knickerbockers. The game was played at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The game was not televised and there is no video footage of the game. The closest anyone has gotten to this ‘unbreakable record” since has been 81 points by Kobe Bryant in 2006, and that was with the three point shot something that didn’t exist when Chamberlain scored his 100.
During that game Chamberlain set 5ive other NBA records including one for most free throws made which is notable since Chamberlain was a notoriously bad free throw shooter. Chamberlain that season AVERAGED 50.4 points a game. Earlier that NBA season on December he had broken the single game record of 71 points with a 78 point game.
