February 3rd, 1959 the great Buddy Holly [along with Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper} were killed in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. In the fall of 1971 singer-songwriter Don McLean released an album called American Pie -the single “American Pie” which clocked in at over 8 and a half minutes took up both sides of the 45. The songs would go to #1 on the Billboard charts and stay there for four weeks. A famous song that everyone has heard. The song starts off with Don describing his reaction to the death of Buddy Holly… “the day the music died” which is now 58 years ago today.
I practically wore out the LP version of the song.
Great album and another equally great song on that album- “Vincent”
