The greatest coach in American sports history-Vince Lombardi was born 100 years ago today. I wrote a big article last fall on Lombardi so I am not going to do that again. Lombardi has been gone nearly 43 years now but his legacy still lives on. He wasn’t a head coach for a long period of time but in the short time he had he had a remarkable impact. The true value of Vince Lombardi though wasn’t just the record of his teams on the field but the impact he had on the men who played for him. The Lombardi Packers have been just as successful off the field as on it and those men, who are now senior citizens all give Lombardi credit for helping them become the men they became. He was more than a football coach. My vote for second greatest coach in American sports history is the legendary “Wizard Of Westwood” John Wooden of UCLA. He had a different approach than Lombardi but the results were the same on and off the court. Lombardi and Wooden were a cut above.
