Paul was inspired to write the song after going to visit John Lennon’s song Julian. This was right after John Lennon and his wife Cynthia had broken up and Paul had went to see Julian to try and cheer him up. The song was originally called “Hey Jules.” John Lennon would later comment that he always thought that the song was written about him and his relationship with Yoko Ono. John would also comment that he thought it was Paul’s best song. This is one of the great Beatles songs without a doubt.
