Ken Brett Pitches Two-Hitter In Game 1/ Triples In Winner Of Game 2 In Pirate Doubleheader Sweep-This Day 1974

One of my memorable Memorial Day’s-this day in 1974 Ken Brett of the Pittsburgh Pirates pitched a 2 hit shutout in game 1 of a doubleheader vs the San Diego Padres and in game 2 he pinch-hits and hits a triple bringing home the winning run of that game. Ken Brett was one of the better hitting pitchers of his time. His family knew something about hitting. His younger brother George kind of made a name for himself.

Ken Brett would pitch with ten different teams during his career. He was an all-star once- that 1974 season with the Pirates. His best years were with the Pirates. As a hitter in his career he had a batting average of .262. I always wondered if Ken Brett would have been brought up in the minors as a hitter he may have had a more successful career. He was one of my favourite Pirates during that brief time he was with them. Ken Brett died in 2003 at the age of 55.
