Clara Barton Establishes The American Red Cross- This Day 1881

On this day in 1881 in Washington, D.C.-Clara Barton established the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is a humanatarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief and education inside the United States. Today, they are in Moore, Oklahoma helping with the terrible disaster that hit that town yesterday.

Clara Barton remained President of the American Red Cross until 1904 when she resigned at the age of 83. She died in 1912 at age 90.
