On this day in 1915 Babe Ruth hit his first major league home run as a member of the Boston Red Sox. The Babe hit his home run at the Polo Grounds against New York Yankee pitcher Jack Warhop. Ruth was 20 years old and it was his 18th major league at-bat. Babe Ruth was a pitcher at the time. He ended up being the losing pitcher in that game. Ruth was such an outstanding pitcher if he hadn’t been switched to an everyday player he probably would have made the Baseball Hall of Fame as a pitcher. I think it was a good idea they decided to put him in right field.
