Giant Pitcher Hoyt Wilhelm Homers In First At Bat In Majors- Only Home Run In 21 Year Career

On this day in 1952 Giants pitcher Hoyt Wilhelm hit a home run in his first major league at-bat. In his second big league game two days later he would hit a triple. Wilhelm, whose big pitch was the knuckleball, would pitch in the major leagues for 21 years and appear in 1070 games but would never hit another home run or triple. Hoyt Wilhelm was 29 years old when he made his major league debut. In his final game he was 16 days short of his 50th birthday. In 1985 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
