The Beatles Song Of The Day: “In My Life”

The Beatles Song Of The Day is “In My Life.” “In My Life” is on The Beatles “Rubber Soul” album. John Lennon wrote this great song with the help of Paul McCartney. Both John and Paul argued over the years about who wrote what in this song, which along with “Strawberry Fields Forever” is my all-time favourite Beatles song [or song period.] This song marked a change in John’s songwriting. In an interview Kenneth Allsop asked John why he hadn’t written songs about his life and experiences John took that suggestion to heart and started writing a long poem about people and places from his past. It was a long and according to John a boring poem but then it was changed around and it became “In My Life.” According to John the basically written before Paul heard it. Paul’s contribution according to John was the middle eight and harmony. According to Paul, when he came in to help John had the first verse done and then they rewrote the rest of it. No matter who did what-this is not only one of my two favourite songs but it is a great great song. What does it say about the songs that The Beatles were putting out that a song this great wasn’t even released as a single?  After “In My Life” John’s changed his style of writing, putting himself and his experiences into them. John Lennon: double-tracked vocal and rhythm guitar/ Paul McCartney: harmony vocal, bass guitar and electric piano/ George Harrison: harmony vocal and lead guitar/ Ringo Starr: drums, tambourine and bells/ George Martin: electric piano. The song was recorded on October 18 and 22, 1965 at Abbey Road. Producer: George Martin.

In My Life {Lennon-McCartney}

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before I know
I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more
