President Franklin Roosevelt, the longest serving president in the history of the United States died of a cerebral hemorrhage, three months into his 4th term as POTUS. He was in Warm Springs, Georgia when he died. This was one of those events that if you were alive then you remembered where you where when you heard about it. I give FDR high marks as a wartime leader I am not a big fan of his new deal policies. He has to rank as one of the most significant presidents we’ve had. Like him or not his 12 years as POTUS had a huge impact on America even decades after his passing.
Looking pictures of FDR towards the end it is hard to believe he was only 63. He looked awful in the pictures from the last year of his life. I think the thing I admire most about FDR is- he came from a wealthy background. When he was struck with polio he could have just sat back and lived the rest of his life out in leasure. He didn’t, he was a fighter and never gave up. He didn’t take the easy way out. Courage.
