2013 Mock Draft – 23rd pick Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have 2 of the next three picks, sandwiching the Colts pick. They are not giving up yet on Christian Ponder and they traded away Percy Harvin. With Harvin on the shelf at the end of last season, and with Ponder basically no threat to beat a team with the pass, Adrian Peterson, came within an eyelash of surpassing Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record.

In other words they need to see if Ponder is actually the QB of the future, they need to get some help at receiver. But this is not their only need, they have big time defensive needs as well. They need a run stuffer, and they need an inside backer. If Arthur Brown is available here I can see him being the pick. Since he is not in this draft we will look to the best available D Line prospect and that is Sylvester Williams.

Williams has some drawbacks, but would probably fit in well with the Vikings defensive system. At 6’3″ 314 he is the ideal big body needed up front. Facing off with one of the better O Line prospects every day has probably helped Williams immensely.

With the 23rd pick the Minnesota Vikings select Sylvester Williams, DT, UNC.
