2013 NFL Mock Draft – Pick 7 – Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals team started 4-0, including a win over the Patriots, then imploded to lose 9 straight, including an absolute butt kicking issued by the Seahawks 58-0. At times the offense was so inept, they probably would have fared better just punting the ball back to the opponent. Since their inception in 1920 the Cardinals franchise has pretty much been the role model for how not to do things. A couple of seasons back they caught lightning in a bottle when Larry Fitzgerald and Kurt Warner both went radioactive at the same time, narrowly losing arguably the best Super Bowl played to the Steelers.

The Cardinals just traded for Carson Palmer, but Palmer is no Kurt Warner, hopefully he can stay upright long enough to deliver passes to Larry Fitzgerald, otherwise this franchise can call itself – The Wreck of the Larry Fitzgerald – with all apologies to Gordon Lightfoot.

The Cardinals need help stopping the read option as they see the Niners and Kaepernick twice per season, and they need solid defenders. If Ezekiel Ansah is on the board here I cannot see Arizona passing on him.

While the Cardinals could go QB here, I think the same as Hans – there is not a franchise QB in this draft. My gut feeling however is this – IF Eric Fisher OT Central Michigan is gone, and IF Chance Warmack G from Alabama is gone, and Ansah is gone, I think that the Cards try to trade down. However, since he is available here….

With the 7th pick the Arizona Cardinals will select Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU. 6’5″ 274.
