Jimmy Carter did a lot of stupid things as POTUS. One of the many things he did that was just plain wrong happened on this day in 1980 when he announced that the United States would boycott the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow to protest the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Carter has the distinction of not only being the worst POTUS of the 20th Century [and on Mt. Rushmore of the worst POTUS in American history} but also in being the worst former POTUS. He had his chance and he was a miserable failure. He’s now spent the past 33 years being critical of whoever [Republican or Democrat} who is the current POTUS. As The Simpson’s called him “History’s Greatest Monster.”
