On this day in 1951 a record credited to Jackie Brenston- but was really Ike Turner’s King’s Of Rhythm- recorded “Rocket 88” at Sam Phillips recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee. This record is often cited as the first rock and roll record. The song was written by Ike Turner.
