On this day in 1977 snow fell for the only time in the history of the city of Miami, Florida. Snow flurries fell between 8am and 9:30am on that day. I remember well the winter of 76-77 growing up in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. It was the worst [or best depending on how you look at it- I love winter} winter in memory. I can recall the story of snow falling in Miami. It seemed like where I lived the snow came down in late November/early December and it never got warm enough to melt for a few months. The snow just piled up. This was during the energy crisis. I think they cancelled school the entire month of January [coming off of Christmas break} save a day or two. I have great memories of that winter.
