Henry Ford And The Ford Motor Company Announces An Eight Hour Workday $5 A Day

On this day in 1914 the Ford Motor Company announced an eight hour workday and a minimum wage of $5 for a day’s labor. This doubled the wages and cut the work day from nine hours to eight. Henry Ford’s primary objective was to reduce worker attrition. Henry Ford changed manufacturing forever.
