Joe Paterno Born This Day 1926

Joe Paterno was born on this day in 1926. Joe Paterno was the head coach at Penn State from 1966 until last fall. He started as an assistant coach at Penn State in 1950. He was an outstanding coach in his day. Of course we know what went down within the last year or so at Penn State and Paterno’s rapid fall. Very sad for many people.  Joe Pa got a little bit too big. He was Penn State University. One of the big things that most people get wrong is their exit. Joe Pa should have retired years ago. Paterno felt he could stay as long as he wanted. He was bigger than the college president. I was never a fan of his. I always felt he was pretty self-rightious/arrogant. But there was no denying he was a great coach and he did some great things. I don’t know if we will ever get by the tragic end to his career/life. Kind of like OJ Simpson in a way. When you think of OJ you think of OJ the killer. When you think of Joe Pa right now it’s not victories on the football field but his inaction off of it that led to the downfall.
