On this day in 1975 Saturday Night Live, debuted on NBC.  The first guest host was George Carlin, the great Andy Kaufman was also on as a guest. The musical acts were Janis Ian and Billy Preston. 38 years and 727 episodes later the show is still going strong. The original “Not Ready For Prime Time Players” included Chevy Chase, John Belushi,Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Garrett Morris and Laraine Newman. To me the best years were the first 5 or 6. I do not remember the last time I watched SNL.
