On this day in 1986 POTUS Ronaldus Magnus and Mikhail Gorbachev the leader of the Soviet Union met in Reykjavik, Iclenad in an effort to continue discussions about scaling back on their intermediate missle arsenals in Europe. The talks lasted two days and collapsed at the last minute when POTUS Ronaldus Magnus refused to compromise on the SDI testing.
The image I will always remember is Ronaldus Magnus walking out to greet Gorby with no coat on. Gorby the much younger man was dressed for the winter. A great decision by Ronaldus Magnus.
i actually remember this meeting clearly, ’twas a big deal back in the day 😉
beginning of the end for the ussr. when reagan would not take sdi off the table the russians were done.
no one understood it at the time.. Reagan did though. His goal all along was the end of the USSR. He was laughed at for even thinking it..
