In this photo taken in 2001 and provided by ESPN, college football commentator Carroll "Beano" Cook is shown. Cook died in his sleep Thursday, Oct. 10, 2012, the University of Pittsburgh announced. The 81 year-old commentator had worked for the sports network since 1986 and was the sports information director at his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh, from 1956 to 1966. (AP Photo/ESPN)

The Cardinal of College Football Beano Cook has died at age 81. Beano was a Pittsburgh guy so I was used to hearing his views on both ESPN and on local radio stations over the years. He was always fun and entertaining even if you disagreed with him. He was very opinionated, which I like. If Beano was going to be on in 15 minutes I always waited to hear him before turning the radio off.
