Cleveland Indian BIll Wambsganss Becomes Only Player In World Series History To Complete An Unassisted Triple Play- This Day 1920

On this day in 1920 Bill Wambsganss became the only player in World Series history to complete an unassisted triple play It happened Game 5 of the 1920 World Series.  Cleveland vs Brooklyn. He made a leaping catch, stepped on second base to get the runner on second who was heading towards third and then tags the runner arriving from first base. Wambsganss was the second baseman for the Indians {his middle name was Adolf} He would live until the age of 91, dying in 1985.

Two other firsts happened in that game, Cleveland pitcher Jim Bagby became the first pitcher to hit a home run in a World Series game and Cleveland’s Elmer Smith hit the first grand slam in World Series play.
