The great writer Edgar Allan Poe died on this day in 1849. He had been found a couple days eariler delirious on the streets of Baltimore. He was taken to Washington College Hospital where he died at 5am on Sunday October 7th, 1849. After being taken in Poe was never coherent enough to talk about what got him into this condition. Cause of death remains mysterious.

Edgar Allan Poe was only 40 years old at the time of his death. He was one of the greatest American writers ever. He wrote many tales of mystery and the macabre, he is considered the father of the detective story. He was also one of the first American writers who attempted to make a living on his writing alone.
