POTUS Theodore Roosevelt Proclaimed Devils Tower The First National Monument- This Day 1906

On this day in 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower in Wyoming the nation’s first National Monument. Devils Tower covers 1346 acres it is located in the north-eastern corner of  Wyoming. It receives about 400,000 visitors a year. Devils Tower is most famous for being used in the 1977 movie “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind”
