On this day in 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower in Wyoming the nation’s first National Monument. Devils Tower covers 1346 acres it is located in the north-eastern corner of  Wyoming. It receives about 400,000 visitors a year. Devils Tower is most famous for being used in the 1977 movie “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind”
