Sara Jane Moore Tries To Assassinate POTUS Gerald Ford

On this  day in 1975 Sara Jane Moore attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford outside of the St.Francis Hotel in San Francisco, California. It was the second assassination attempt on President Ford in California in a 17 day period.

Sara Jane Moore was about 40 feet from POTUS Ford when she took a single shot at him. She narrowly missed hitting POTUS Ford, when she realized she had missed she raised her revolver again, this time an Ex-Marine named Oliver Sipple dived towards her knocking her arm and saving POTUS Ford’s life.

Sara Jane Moore received a life sentence, she was released on December 31st, 2007 after serving 32 years in prison. Oliver Sipple died at the age of 47 in 1989.
