Arnold Palmer turns 83 today. Arnold Palmer was one of the greatest golfers ever. He won 7 Majors- The Masters 4 times, the U.S. Open once, the British Open twice, he never won the PGA he finished second on three occasions. He was more popular than great though. He didn’t win a major after the age of 34. I wouldn’t put Arnie in the Top 5 Golfers of all time but he certainly has to be in the Top 10- probably 6th or 7th greatest. He has to be the most popular golfer ever though. No one is even close to him there.

His popularity gave a big boost to the game. Arnie was a made for television golfer. He was Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Year” in 1960. He had a huge fan base who called themselves “Arnie’s Army” Palmer made millions and millions off of the golf course. He is known for always being a gentleman.
