Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme Attempts To Assassinate POTUS Gerald R. Ford This Day 1975

On this day in 1975 Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, a member of the Manson Family attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford in Sacramento, California. She showed up at Sacramento, California’s Capital Park dressed like a nun and armed with a  M1911A1  ,45 Colt automatic pistol that she pointed at Ford. The pistol’s magazine was loaded with four rounds but there was no bullet in the firing chamber. She was immediately restrained by Secret Service agent Larry Buendorf. She would be sentenced to life in prison. She was released in 2009.

President Ford would return to California seventeen days later and survive another assassination attempt when Sara Jane Moore fired a single shot at him outside the St.Francis Hotel in San Francisco. She was released from prison in 2007.
