On this day in 1981 a worldwide television audience of over 700 million people watched the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. The wedding was held in London at St. Paul’s Cathedral. This seemed to be an event that everyone was getting up early in the morning in the U.S. to watch. I remember I was in college, working a summer job. I caught a few minutes of it before I headed to work. Lady Di added a lot of much needed pizzazz to the Royal Family. This turned out not to be the ‘romance of the century” as a lot of people thought. Things turned ugly. Sadly, Lady Diana would die in that accident in Paris in 1997. Hard to believe that was 31 years ago. Now Charles and Diana’s son William and his wife Kate seem to have taken the world’s attention. Seems to me Kate Middleton has done what Diana did- add some personality to the Royal Family. Seems to me she is handling a difficult situation pretty well.
