Don Knotts–aka Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show” born on this day 1924

Actor Don Knotts was born on this day in 1924 in Morgantown, West Virginia. His most famous role would be that of Deputy Barney Fife in “The Andy Griffith Show” He won 5ive Emmy Awards for that role. In my opinion the greatest character in television sitcom history is either Barney Fife or Archie Bunker.

Knotts was a regular on “The Andy Griffith Show” for 5ive years. He left the show when he got a movie deal but would make some appearances on the show during those years. The movies he did that I remember most fondly are “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” and “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” In later years Don Knotts would  play the role of Ralph Furley in the dreadful “Three’s Company” Don Knotts died of lung cancer at the age of 81 in 2006.
