Hard to believe it was this long ago- 27 years ago today was the Live Aid Concert. The concerts were organized by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. The concert lasted 16 hours long-starting at noon in London- in Philadelphia it was 7am. The purpose of Live Aid was to raise money for Ethiopian Famine Relief. The event would raise 150 million dollars.

In London the concert was held at Wembley Stadium with 72,000 in attendance. In Philadelphia there were 100,000 in attendance at John F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. The  performers I remember most are U2, Elvis Costello singing “All You Need Is Love” Bob Dylan-who made the comment at this concert that some money need to be sent to help farmers in America. This would be the comments that sparked “Farm Aid”

When I think of Live Aid I think of one thing though- Freddie Mercury and Queen stole the show. They rose to the occasion and it was their finest hour.
